What is a Brilliant Innovation?
- 1.Something we didn’t necessarily think we needed
- 2.Which benefits the innovators by creating new value
- 3.Which creates change, or confirms biases, in our society
The tech community focuses on this brilliant innovation, often at the expense of more normal innovation – that which will not achieve Unicorn valuations but will provide tools the customers need and want.

Getting past proof of concept
This focus on “brilliance” couples with the battle cry of “go fast and break things” and does little to drive companies to develop products that customers can trust and believe they can trust. For more on how AI technology is at a crossroads in terms of public trust, go and read the Edelman Trust Barometer (https://www.edelman.com/trust/2024/trust-barometer). It is an annual survey, now in its 24th year, of 32,000 members of the public drawn from 28 different countries. The survey reports only 50% of respondents trusting the AI industry and only an even balance of respondents embracing and rejecting AI technology.
Building Trust
In order to build trust in their products, companies must build trustyworthyness into them. The first step in doing so is to create a responsible technology review board. You can learn more about how to do that at www.GoodTechAdvisory.com
